Homemade apple soda recipe, from Cheap Recipe Blog

Homemade soda is all the rage. It’s no longer cool just to drink soda. Now you have to make your own at home to fit in with the cool kids.

But as popular as homemade soda is, one flavor seems to be missing.

I have seen no sign of apple soda in restaurants or grocery stores. It seems like an obvious choice, considering apples are in season and all.

Since I couldn’t find it anywhere else, I decided to make my own homemade apple soda at home.

And I’m glad I did, because it was super tasty. (Note to self: Sweet, tart, and carbonated is a killer taste combination!)

Making Your Own Apple Soda At Home

To make this seasonal homemade soda, all you really need is two ingredients: Apple juice and carbonated water.

If you want to give it a little extra pizzazz – which is totally optional – you can add some citric acid and/or cinnamon before serving.

The citric acid will add just a bit of sourness to the drink, making it taste a bit more like “traditional” soda.

You’ll need to make an apple juice reduction by simmering apple juice over low heat for about 40 minutes. After awhile, the juice becomes syrupy and the perfect consistency for adding to drinks. This is what it will look like:

This drink recipe is perfect for October and the Halloween season, but will bring you right into Thanksgiving. This year, skip the hot cider and go for a cold apple soda instead. I think your guests will be pleasantly surprised!

Homemade Apple Soda

Yield: 6 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes

Although I used fresh apple juice to make this soda, you can also use apple cider. The main difference between apple juice and apple cider is that apple juice is more filtered than apple cider. Therefore, apple cider is generally pulpier and cloudier than apple juice.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 gallon apple juice
  • 36 ounces club soda (carbonated water)

Instructions

  1. Place apple juice in a medium saucepan. Bring juice to a simmer over medium heat. Turn heat down to low and allow the juice to gently simmer for about 30 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes syrupy. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  2. To serve, place two or three tablespoons of apple syrup into a glass. Add carbonated water and stir. Add optional citric acid and/or cinnamon, if desired. Refrigerate any leftover syrup for up to two weeks.
