Entertaining On a Budget: Serve Crostini At Your Next Party
First rule about entertaining on a budget: Don’t let a tight budget keep you from entertaining friends and family in your home. Throwing a great party does not, I repeat, does not have to cost a lot of money.
Crostini with toppings is one of the most bang-for-your buck appetizers out there. A loaf of French bread costs right around $2. One loaf makes about 25 crostini.
What you choose to put on top of the crostini is up to you, but remember: the sky is the limit. Scour your fridge for ingredients you already have on hand. I’ve shared several budget-friendly ideas over at the Betty Crocker website, so be sure to check them out!
Otherwise, here are some ideas to get you started:
- Brie and raspberry preserves
- Salami and cheese
- Hummus and tomato slices
- Sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and balsamic vinegar
- Nutella and strawberries
- Sweetened cream cheese and shaved chocolate
- Chislic (deep fried, seasoned steak) and Parmesan cheese
- Serve on a charcuterie board or this $10 cheese plate

Follow the recipe below to make a batch of crostini.
How To Make Crostini
Watch the crostini carefully while baking - you want the bread to be nicely toasted but not burnt!
Ingredients
- 1 baguette
- Olive oil
- Salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375F. Slice baguette into 1/4-inch slices.
- Place bread slices on a large baking sheet.
- Drizzle with plenty of olive oil. Turn the bread around to ensure both sides are coated.
- Bake for 5 minutes on one side. Remove pan from oven, and carefully flip the bread slices over. Return to oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, until bread is toasted.
Brilliant! and it looks delicious- when’s your next party? I’ll be there :c) Also so happy for you being a part of the Betty Crocker family of recipes! That’s pretty dang exciting ;c)
We should totally throw a food party together sometime!!
I LOVE this! One of the best ideas I ever got (from a restaurant) was P’tit Basque Cheese (yes, it’s a bit expensive but you only need a little), Thinly sliced apples, toasted pine nuts and a light honey drizzle on a crostini. INCREDIBLE!
And to substitute the cheese for something cheaper, you could probably go with a good nutty smooth cheese… like maybe a gouda or bellevitano?
Thanks for the cheese recommendation! It might be worth the splurge 🙂
That looks delicious! I need to try this out!
