Chocolate-orange dessert salami: A no-bake dessert in the shape of salami!

First things first: This is not “salami” like you know it.

There is no meat in it.

It’s chocolate, in the shape of salami.

I wanted to try something completely different for holiday cookie baking, and this recipe came to mind. I’ve included dessert salami on a dessert charcuterie board, and my dinner guests loved it. A conversation dessert, if you will.

About The Recipe

Dessert salami has a base of chocolate and butter. Delicious ingredients are added (slivered almonds, biscoff cookies, and orange zest).

The mixture is shaped into a log and refrigerated – where it hardens. Then the chocolate “salami” is coated with powdered sugar and cut into slices.

The orange zest makes the dessert, in my opinion. Orange and chocolate is a taste combination made in heaven. Don’t skip the orange zest!

The slices can be eaten like a cookie, or you can put them on a dessert crisp (like Raincoast Crisps).

Recipe source: Giada de Laurentiis made it famous. I adapted this recipe from Pretty. Simple. Sweet.

Where To Find Biscoff Cookies

Biscoff cookies are European biscuits that are popular with coffee. I bought a package at World Market, but you can also find them at other grocery stores including Target and Super Walmart.

If all else fails, you can buy them on Amazon.

In a pinch, you can substitute another crumbly, not-so-sweet biscuit.

A Gift-Worthy Recipe

This dessert salami makes a great gift. Wrap it in parchment paper, twist both ends, and tie with baker’s twine.

Chocolate-Orange Dessert Salami

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

This no-bake dessert takes about 10 minutes to mix up. Eat it in slices (like a cookie) or include it on a dessert platter where guests can slice the "salami" itself.

Ingredients

  • 7 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted
  • 24 Biscoff biscuits
  • Zest from one orange
  • Powdered sugar, for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large microwaveable bowl, heat chocolate and butter in 30-second increments, stirring after each cycle. Once the chocolate and butter are melted, stir in heavy cream.
  2. Stir in almonds and crumbled Biscoff cookies. Add orange zest.
  3. Pour chocolate mixture onto a large piece of parchment paper. Using your hands, form into a log shape, about 10 inches long. Fold parchment paper over the log and twist the ends to fasten edges.
  4. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens, about an hour. Take chocolate log and coat with powdered sugar. Slice and enjoy! Store in the refrigerator or freezer.
