This popcorn Christmas tree is SO festive, SO cute… And SO insanely easy to make!

If you can make popcorn balls, you can make this popcorn tree.

If you’re not making your own popcorn, it only takes about 10 minutes to make.

Forming The Tree

Forming the popcorn mixture into a tree is not difficult at all.

I simply used my hands to form the popcorn into a tree shape, packing it tight to ensure that it stuck together.

Also, the marshmallow-to-popcorn ratio in this recipe is ideal for forming the popcorn into a desired shape. There is plenty of marshmallow to make the popcorn perfectly sticky.

Can I Pop My Own Popcorn For This Recipe?

Yes, you can certainly pop popcorn at home and use it to make this popcorn Christmas tree.

However, I am planning on using bagged popcorn the next time I make this.

Why?

With store-bought popcorn, there is less of a chance of finding unpopped kernels. #SaveYourTeeth

Also, bagged popcorn is often crunchier than the stuff I make at home. And thoroughly crunchy popcorn is the key to making a good popcorn ball!

Getting Creative With Popcorn

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your popcorn tree! Here are some ideas:

  • Make 2 or 3 smaller trees instead of one big tree
  • Use different candies in lieu of or in addition to M&Ms
  • Make the popcorn a different color (pastel blue or pink, for example)
  • Make popcorn balls instead of a tree

Popcorn Christmas Tree

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

This popcorn Christmas tree is essentially a popcorn ball, except it shaped like a Christmas tree. You can make one big tree with this recipe, or 2 or 3 smaller ones.

Ingredients

  • 10-11 cups popped popcorn
  • 10 ounce bag of marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • Green food coloring
  • 1/2 cup red and green M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Place marshmallows and butter in a large heavy-bottomed saucepan. Turn heat to medium-high and stir until marshmallows are melted and the mixture is uniform. Add 2 to 3 drops of green food coloring, stir, and add more if desired.
  2. Place popcorn in a large mixing bowl. Pour marshmallow mixture over the popcorn and stir to ensure popcorn is evenly coated.
  3. Let the mixture cool a couple of minutes. Add half of the M&Ms to the popcorn.
  4. Coat hands with a bit of butter or cooking spray. Form the popcorn into a Christmas tree shape, packing the popcorn tight. Place remaining M&Ms on the outside of the tree.
