Pantry staples

Cooking with pantry staples is one of the most important tips for cooking on a budget.

But what foods are considered pantry staples?

While each home cook will have their own list, I consider the following foods/ingredients to be pantry staples:
Potatoes
Milk
Butter
Eggs
Meat
Flour
Sugar
Pasta
Frozen fruits and vegetables
Canned tomatoes
Canned beans
Canned tuna
Cooking oils
Spices

With these simple ingredients, you can make SO MANY different dishes. I like to keep my fridge and pantry full with pantry staples so I can make different recipes on a whim. Then, I think twice about running to the grocery store to pick up additional ingredients that I may not use an entire package of.

Take some time to create your own “pantry staples” list. Once you’ve figured out these items, you can shop around to get the best deals, and you’ll be ready to save money by cooking simple, delicious recipes at home.
